Lidl Hungary has significantly expanded its operational capabilities with the inauguration of a new logistics center in Kiskunfélegyháza, marking a major investment of nearly 60 billion forints, approximately €162 million. This state-of-the-art facility is now the largest warehouse for the retailer in Hungary and is set to supply around 70 stores across the region, reinforcing Lidl’s distribution network.
Spanning more than 83,000 square meters, the logistics center has already created over 400 jobs, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees soon. The facility boasts 194 loading docks and a 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, equipped with advanced energy-efficient systems. Among these systems is a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation, alongside technology that repurposes waste heat from refrigeration processes for underfloor heating. Such innovations underline Lidl’s commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency.
In addition to its technological advancements, the logistics center incorporates a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green area, enhancing the environmental footprint of the site. This green space complements the facility’s sustainable design, contributing to a more eco-friendly operation.
The center is poised to become a pivotal element of Lidl’s supply chain in Hungary, with an estimated 4,500 pallets of goods expected to be dispatched daily from the facility. This enhancement is anticipated to bolster Lidl’s supply network on a national scale, supporting the retailer’s ongoing expansion strategy within the country.
Currently operating 220 stores throughout Hungary, Lidl sources nearly 60% of its products from local suppliers. The new logistics center is a critical component in sustaining and expanding Lidl’s domestic operations, ensuring that the company continues to deliver a diverse range of products to its Hungarian customer base efficiently.
